History,
and gear.
Opened in 1970 as Mercury Custom Recording Studio under Mercury Records ownership. Producer Jerry Kennedy ran it through the 1970s, with early sessions including Kris Kristofferson, Tom T. Hall, Faron Young, and Jerry Lee Lewis.
Jimmy Bowen moved operations there in 1983 and brought digital recording to Music Row. The Back Stage room was added in 1982. Ron Kerr became sole owner in the late 1980s. Terry and Kim Pegula bought Sound Stage in May 2012.
Today the rooms host sessions across country, gospel, rock, pop, and Americana. Full Stage SSL 9080J/J-Series boards in both rooms with ATC SCM300ASL mains. Chuck Ainlay's share of Back Stage was included in the 2012 deal — he remains in residence.
