Inside the room

History,
and gear.

Built in 1968 — one of Nashville's first purpose-built studios. Roy Orbison bought it in 1972 and renamed it US Recorders, reconfiguring to 24-track. Ronnie Milsap bought it in 1978, renamed it Groundstar Laboratories, and recorded much of his catalog there.

Black River acquired the room some time before the 2012 Sound Stage purchase. Milsap personally approved Black River using the name. The studio is named for Ronnie Milsap.

Today: SSL 9000J console, ATC SCM150ASL mains. Used for vocals, songwriting demos, and intimate sessions.
